Атриум - это материальная антитеза, контрмера, против основных проблем среднестатистического полицейского ведомства. Он способствует предоставлению общего, совместного рабочего пространства, наряду с этим открывая общение на различных иерархических уровнях. Будучи «окном» между этажами, он как бы открывает взаимодействие не только на горизонтальном, но и на вертикальном уровне.
The atrium is the material antithesis, a countermeasure, against the main problems of the average police department I have outlined before. It disengages closedness and isolation of officers by supplying a common, shared working space, alongside that, it opens up communication on different hierarchical levels. Being a “window” between floors, it opens up conversation and interaction not solely on the horizontal but on a vertical level.
Эффект такой конструкции подчеркивает восприятие работающих чиновников, что они не работают изолированно и должны функционировать только как прозрачные и взаимозависимые профессионалы. Атриум обеспечивает здание достаточным естественным светом в благоприятных погодных условиях. Символически он также связывает все внутренние работы ведомства с внешним миром, то, что мы редко видим в российских отделах полиции, закрытых и обычно не имеющих прямой визуальной связи с внешней средой.
The effect of such a construction accentuates the perception of the working officials that they do not work in isolation - neither do they work in closed collectives - they can only function properly as transparent and interdependent professionals. The openness of the atrium, that is, the fact that it goes all the way up to the ceiling providing the structure with ample natural light in favorable weather conditions, adds to the topic. Symbolically, it also connects all the inner workings of the department with the outside world, something that we rarely see in Russian police departments, being closed off, and usually having no direct visual connection with the outside environment.
Поскольку бетон является доминирующим материалом, используемым во внутренней конструкции пространства, то, поскольку он однороден, основное внимание во внутренней архитектуре уделяется форме. С точки зрения практической реализации, этот факт включал в себя решение подчеркнуть ритм пространства, добавив повторяющиеся вертикальные структуры. Это также означало, что колонны третьего этажа существующего здания, отличающиеся от колонн на других этажах, должны были быть заменены, чтобы правильно ассимилировать их в вертикальную симметрию, которую наблюдает зритель, глядя через атриум с любого этажа.
Since concrete is the dominating material used in the interior construction of the space, that is, since it is homogenous, the main concentration in the inner architecture is on the form. In terms of practical realizations, this included the decisions to emphasize the rhythm of the space, adding repeating vertical structures. This also implied that the existing third-floor columns, which differ from the columns on the other floors, had to be replaced in order to be properly assimilated into vertical symmetry the observer experiences looking through the atrium from any floor.
