In my attempt to create a ring for an icon, I immediately gravitated towards RuPaul, an undoubtedly iconic drag queen who has been my idol since I was thirteen. A bold figure who has worked as a model, actor, recording artist, author, and currently hosts the TV show RuPaul's Drag Race, RuPaul warranted a bold ring.

Ultimately, I chose to focus on RuPaul on the runway, thinking largely about presence, color, and movement.

Starting with a bold, titanium-vapor treated kyanite stone, I constructed a prong setting , which I attached to a wide ring band. Caught between the setting and the ring is a shallow hammered bowl, the four structural wires cutting through C-shaped holes in the bowl which allow the entire bowl to move slightly.

The bowl has been lined entirely with handmade metal sequins. The sequins have been loosely riveted through the careful, even balling-up of wire on both sides, adding another layer of movement and sound. Three sequins are also tucked away at the bottom of the ring band, providing a pleasing, hidden texture for the wearer.
