Project site, Etimesgut Sugar Factory is one of the most important facilities that has contributed into Turkey’s sugar production for years. Nowadays, with the changes in technology and market needs, the sugar factory is facing the danger of losing its function. The factory area is an important industrial heritage from the early republican period of Turkey; hence, it has an important place in the city memory since in that time factory campuses operated as small villages with all the social and public facilities inside them. Also, if the area will lose its function, it has a potential to be reclaimed as a new public area for Ankara. The task within the diploma studio was to re-function the sugar factory as a music academy. Since the given objective may not be enough to revive the industrial area as a new public space. The project is creating an urban campus which the academy will only be a part of it and the rest will have interactions with the citizens to meet the critical need of public space in Ankara. With renovation, the heritage will also get the chance to be recognized by citizens.
