WAR MONUMENT

WAR MONUMENT
PM manager: Anna Makas
Year: 2023
The design of the war memorial is dedicated to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
It is a black glass cube with a 4 meter edge on all sides.

The cube has a 1.3 meter wide opening in its central façade, which can be entered by means of a free donation (QR code or collection box). The funds received will be transferred to one or more Ukrainian military and/or refugee resettlement funds (depending on the regulations of the host country or the capabilities of the foundation under whose auspices the exhibition is being held).
Inside the cube, with a small indentation of the glass facets, there is an exposition of three parts of the walls of the panel houses destroyed during the war by the aggressor (the Russian Federation).

*The first experiments with the construction of panel frame mass housing began in the 1920s and continued in the post-war period. In Kiev, such houses began to appear in the 1950s.

Organisation point: in most cases, the wall panels are not subject to restoration, so they are written off for dismantling and sent to the landfill of those or other disposal areas of the territorial communities - accordingly, the agreements with the territorial communities directly resolve the issue of the availability of the exposition.

Technical point: the logistics of the panels will be carried out by means of a 20-foot container (the dimensions permitting), but this is a little complicated due to the closed waterways, so it will probably be carried out by land, water and again by land to the place of installation - which, of course, will have a negative effect on the cost of delivery.

In front of the exposed parts of the walls there are information boards on tripods, the text of which informs the visitor about the building (date of construction, number of apartments, people living in it - the latter is taken from an open register of residents), the date of destruction, the number of victims and what was directly destroyed by the building. Then, in alphanumeric format, the coordinates of the building are marked, below which there is a QR code that, when linked, allows the visitor to watch a certain amount of footage dedicated to the events that preceded the destruction and to the description of its consequences.

The panels are illuminated by warm glow linear luminaires recessed into the floor.
Above the floor, at a height of 2,500mm, LED media panels are placed around the entire perimeter of the space, continuously broadcasting footage showing the consequences of Russia's military aggression in Ukraine, war crimes (with some censorship for ethical reasons), hostilities and the movement of IDPs. There are also loudspeakers around the perimeter of the room to broadcast both textual information and the sound of the footage being shown.

Technical point: in order to create a footage, a large amount of footage filmed by both domestic and foreign cameramen and press, up to private individuals, is supposed to be purchased.
The external part will be used in the evenings as a screen to show video footage (without sound) through projectors installed on the perimeter of the building (black facets of the cube will work as a seamless screen with images flowing from one side to the other).
Thanks for watching!
