Module one was first developed to satisfy the requirement for an eating surface for cafe zones. As it progressed, to make the table surface self supporting and stable, it was practical for it to become both a table and a seating element.

Additionally, when the module is rotated backwards, it becomes an entirely new piece for seating - one which doesn’t look as though it is the product of such a rotation. This seat is more reclined and caters for an entirely different user to its non-rotated counterpart; long stay seating for open green areas.
Throughout the broader context of the Perth City link project, the urban furniture elements are easily recognizable as a coherent set, tying the different and sometimes segregated spaces of the vast project together with consistent visual elements. The concrete elements within each modular piece of furniture ensures that the industrial design elements are harmonious with the monolithic ‘carved out’ exposed concrete walls and voids that form the master-plan.
