Choose an area within the Thomson Community Center and propose a new function for the space, which will solve the current issues of lacking of connection between the residents there.
Design Strategy
To create a centre with activities that caters to residents of all ages and to connect people of different social statues by designing an arts/entertainment hub. Hence bring back the communal gathering of Thomson.
Design Statement
Cooking is something that ties people together because it is something that we have seen in our daily lives. Food is universal and it comes from cooking. It connects people in a way that goes beyong ages, status, gender, religion or races. Nowadays, cooking TV commercial programs are getting popular .
In order to bring back the culture, I propose of a culinary studio for people from both private and HDB estate to be able to interact and connect with one another.

Concept
Chinese cooking is about each of the small individual ingrediends come together to form the whole end product. Case study of Barcelona Pavilion by Mies Van Der Rohe , on how " whole is more than the sum of its parts.
Above: Perspective shows the heavy cooking kitchen. This is the key space in terms of the activity. It connects people by visual communication.
Above: Perspective shows the light cooking area, activities such as steaming and baking are taken place. It is a double volume space where people from the dining area ( level 2) and corridor has a view of the activities inside. So that the passive audiences can be participated through visual and smell.
Above: Perspective shows the resting area provided. It is located beside the lighting cooking area, serves as a gathering space for them to relax and view the cooking lessons conducted beside them.
