DESIGN SPRINT - Farm-to-Table Reinvented

Farm-to-table reinvented

Spring 2023 - 8 weeks sprint
Part of the Master's studies in Tampere University

What I did?
- The goal of our interdisciplinary team of four worked to create an idea that would make purchasing local food more accessible and convenient
- Designed a demo for the team and my role in the team was the idea generator and I pushed the team to think further.
- Participated in each step of the process
- Cowrote a final report
- Pitched the idea to experts.

Process
- Demola hosted an eight-week sprint where teams tackle their topic. New tasks were assigned to the teams weekly. Throughout the process we got feedback from the experts.
- The design process progressed from exploring the topic of the project to researching the present state, where we found out that purchasing locally produced food is difficult and time consuming for the consumers.
- Following the current state analysis, we created future states and hypotheses. The 4 future states were: AI-assisted local food platform (year 2025), Drone-to-table (2030), Vanlife Vegans (2030) and Garbage food from the government (2800).
- We decided to work further whit the AI-assisted local food platform and the final outcome is a business concept and a project report that gathers all of the insights into a cohesive document. We pitched the concept to our peers and guests from businesses at a "pitch fair".

Reflections
- Project work is already familiar to me, but the structured design process of Demola gave me ideas that I could use in future projects too.
- Unstructured projects typically have a start-chaos- and the end result. The facilitation helped to focus on one thing at a time and deducted the chaos. Working in an international team always provides insights into other cultures.
- It was fun to work in a team, where team members share responsibilities and it is not left to one person.
- Throughout the process, I gained insights into sustainable agriculture and the farm-to-table movement.
