Final Project

In my first compositional revisit, I decided to take the advice of my peers and my professor and to take the text “Why Do You Paddle Out?” and instead of making it one, long awkward line – I decided to take their words seriously and create 3 lines out of the same line of text. This creates a much more visually stimulating piece, for it pyramids in text within the blank space of the work. It creates more fill, which makes the piece feel more complete and unifying. I am glad I went with this edit!

The second piece I chose to revisit was my Cowboy Astronaut piece where it is a photo of me taken from riding horseback in Central America but edited into outer space. Multiple peer reviews have acknowledged that this piece felt like there were three separate entities and it did not feel complete. One of my peers suggested adding a filter over the entire piece to create a unifying quality. I think making the piece black and white and creating more contrast inherently took something that felt separate and made the two subjects coexist artistically within the same piece.

Lastly, I chose my piece from our color wheel projects early on. I needed to redeem myself on a specific piece. Although I didn’t edit too much, it needed to be done. When I originally handed it in, there was a huge outline of a clown fish smack dab in the center of the piece and my eyes didn’t even catch it. I decided to get rid of that, and the actual clown fish because it did not feel fitting where it was. I rearranged some of the fish as well to give a more balanced look overall.
