TOOTHCRUSH (SPECULATIVE DESIGN)

TOOTHCRUSH (CRITICAL DESIGN)
OCD, EVERYWHERE

This project targets people suffering with OCD, through the application of speculative design. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition characterized by recurrent and persistent thoughts or repetitive behaviors that the person feels driven to perform - for example cleaning your teeth. Toothbrushing is one of the common compulsions among people with OCD and can be very distressing for those who experience it.
TOOTHCRUSH aims at raising awareness about these habits through putting the emphasis on compulsive toothbrushing.
DEFINING MODELS

‘Hole brush’ never keeps your teeth clean enough. Designed with a blank space between bristles, this toothbrush will always leave some dirty spots to remind you that you have to do it again.
‘Wire brush’ is a solution if you feel like no toothbrush can be hard enough and no pressure high enough. Thin but springy stainless steel wires will deeply scratch your teeth to reach the new clean layer underneath.
‘Smile brush’ is a personalized toothbrush fitted according to a scan of your mouth. It can be used to make sure the full range of your teeth is covered and cleaned up, but don't forget this process should be repeated several times since the cleanliness level drains minute by minute!
APPLICATION
Connect to the TOOTHCRUSH mobile application to check your cleanliness level and don’t stop brushing until it reaches 100% - which is never.
You can also check your progress and reach the set goals featured in the app to gradually change or keep your habits.
