Working in pairs, our final project for 3D Drawing was to pick a company from a given list to design for. We had to make a compelling case as to why our product would fit their brand, as well as what we could contribute to what the company has already established.

My partner, Andrew, and I both gravitated towards the Japanese company MUJI. Their "super normal" aesthetic and unique origins (as a supermarket) inspired us. The narrative of the company and it's designers led us to create designs based on a specific lifestyle and furniture as a habitual object.

We started out with hand sketches to figure out proportions, then began modeling the stool top in SolidWorks. From the virtual model, we were able to understand the stool as a three-dimensional object. We made several test prints in foam before we used the CNC router on our final piece. By working back and forth between drawings, computer models, and foam models we were able to achieve the final product with the proportions clearly planned.
