In JoyWare, the auther designed a "failed screwdriver" - one that only spins in place to make a ticking sound and fails to lock the screw - in an attempt to challenge the function-oriented thinking of hardware hand tools and to reflect on the neutrality of objects. If we try to use the screwdriver to lock a screw with a slippery spin, we will only get frustrated, but we can have fun if we enjoy the ticking sound of the spin. The author believes that objects are neutral, and that they make sense when they collide with our subjective perceptions. Therefore, the existence of a failed screwdriver should be attributed to our subjective perceptions, not to the object itself.
