Strip District Market Hall

This Market Hall was sited in Pittsburgh’s strip district, on the edge of the Allegheny River. It’s a gathering place for Pittsburgh’s venders and consumers, with a destination restaurant and supplementary offices.

The steel structural system is exemplified by the roof truss design, which creates a large  atrium with directionality towards the Allegheny River. The destination restaurant floats within the atrium, a winding shape to juxtapose the rigidity of the market space.  It’s perforated sheet metal and translucent canvas materials allow light from the frosted glass roof to pass through to the market stalls underneath. It also gives the restaurant a translucent quality, so the restaurant users can see to the market below. The offices flank the edges on the second and third floors, allowing multiple balconies touching the atrium.
