The vision of the Doug Deason Justice Fellowship is to build a strong foundation of future advocates, policy-makers, and criminal justice reformers who understand that protecting public safety must be the focus of the criminal justice system and that emotional & dogmatic policies don't work.
The Doug Deason Justice Fellowship will be a summer program aimed at college juniors and seniors primarily on pre-law and criminal justice tracks. The program will be led by criminal justice reformers from across the nation and from a variety of backgrounds.
The Fellowship will consist of two main parts. First, students will be introduced to various criminal justice reform topics in a series of virtual meetings where they will complete coursework to better prepare for the program culmination of a week-long summit. This summit will be attended in-person at George Mason University outside of Washington, D.C., where students will hear from the brightest minds in the criminal justice system and be challenged through hands-on learning experiences.
The icons are created to distinguish the four element of the Criminal Justice System:
Retribution, Incapacitation, Deterrence, and Transformation.
