Magnetic Magazine school project

School Project: Magnetic Magazine
I had this project in the spring of 2023. I was a student at Noroff School of Technology and Digital Media, and this was one of my school projects I am proud of.
The brief given can be summarised to this: Magnetic Magazine, an online magazine on music culture and events, wanted a printed version to give out at random events globally. One for each season, I made one for the summer of 2023 and the editions name was called "The Voice of Progressive Music Culture".

They wanted their magazine to lead people to their website, they wanted their magazine to be a break from the hustle and bustle of life. There were some other criteria like that the cover image needed to be in one of the featured articles, and that none of the articles could be altered.

This was my way to tackle it and my teacher was satisfied and gave me a few pointers to improve. Which I have implemented, like making the lines of my artwork thicker.
In this project I did everything except the articles that I put in and the photographs paired with the articles.
This is the front page of Magnetic Magazine, the summer edition.
I wanted the front page to be energetic and to call people inn to open the magazine and read the content. So I chose bright and loud colors with black/dark grey to contrast it. The logo to Magnetic Magazine was changed a little to make it more masculine, Why?, well their research showed that the ones that read their online magazine the most, is young men. That is part of the reason that I chose to have an illustration of a man on the cover.
This is one of my Moodboards that I used to choose the style of my magazine. I eventually landed on a modern-style magazine inspired by the energy of the Holi festival. Colorful, bright, and fun.
I have a love for brightly colored design. So, this was my chance to both make a modern magazine with a lot of negative space to allow breaks in the reading, but to also have popping colors.
This is my other Moodboard on the style I wanted my magazine to have. Since it would be the summer edition I wanted summer colors. Like Yellow, blue, green and red. I wanted summer vibes: beaches, sunglasses, ice cream, fruit, and green & yellow fields of plants.
I wound up making some changes though, since the colors I initially thought about didn´t work together the way I wanted on a front page. They were too dark, warm. So, instead I made the yellow colder, and switched out the red with pink and orange. The green turned into a fresher turquoise.
The color scheme continued in the rest of the magazine.
This was given with the brief. My target audience for this Magazine was: Men age 18-34, mainly using Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
The Voice of Progressive Music Culture".

The table of content and the About Us page with the text copied from Magnetic´s webpage.
As you will see, important information in the magazine is highlighted in pink so that readers can easily find it. Most of the quotes are in turquoise speech bubbles.
The background image is credited in the bottom left. I admit, the background isn´t fitting the magazine that well, but I wanted the school to be recognisable.
The magazine is put into the layout of 3 columns with 1 exception on page 5 due to the amount of text not looking good in 3 columns.
The "Do you listen to music while cooking?" Is my best article yet, it is like it was made for my layout!
Then this is the back page, the back cover. It has the socials that the readers of Magnetic Magazine uses the most. Then the webmagazine.
Since the school project will not be used in real life, I do not know how effective the magazine would have been, but this project shows some of my style. Bright, colorful, and a bit too much negative space at times.
