Martin Osner started shooting for this body of work in 2006, with the intension of highlighting modern "throw away” society.

At the time, consumerism and the need to have, was at an all time high. The economy was rampant and simply replacing desirable items was far more convenient than repairing them. Rapid advances in technology kept fuelling the incredible desire to have. An item that was brilliant yesterday, is no longer good enough today.

Homes in affluent society are filled with the best modern electronic equipment; beautiful cars are parked in the garages and new caravans and pleasure craft, are seen standing undercover in the back garden, ready for the much anticipated three week annual holiday. With new models being launched and aggressively marketed, these items find themselves destined for a very short shelf life; soon to be traded in as they begin their inevitable journey to insignificance.

Soon, having successfully fulfilled a brief purpose, they will be orphaned or discarded and forgotten. Earthly belongings simply thrown away. Dust to dust.

“Things” once worshiped, idolized and even loved, now simply left abandoned.
