Landmark Postcards
I am glad that I decided to showcase the beauty of Africa for my final designs.  I initially had reservations about the color  revisions to the greenery on the “Mount Kilimanjaro” postcard. I preferred the softer tones to be more pastel, but after my adjustments I realized that the card appeared to be a bit juvenile. Overall, I enjoyed this project and appreciated the fact that I got to explore using different tools to create beautiful postcards.
Landmark Postcard Revisions
This is the revised version of my original design for Mount Kilimanjaro. I changed the color of all the greenery to reflect a more realistic image. I added more yellow and dark green colors to add light and shadows. I layered the grass for more dimension. In addition, I added a shadow under the elephant's feet, so that the elephants don't look like they are floating. I also added a darker gradient fill on the elephant for more depth.
Landmark Postcard Rough Drafts
I decided to go with two landmarks in Africa as a continued theme for both postcards. Africa is a beautiful continent with a lot of historic landscapes.
The first postcard I designed  is the “Avenue of Baobabs” which is known for its unique shaped trees that are being deforested, I wanted to highlight the large and uniquely cone-shaped trees and bring attention to them, so I bordered them on a path.
For the second card, I chose the dormant volcano known as “Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa for my second postcard Design and focal point of the postcard. Each section of the mountain was drawn and filled with a gradient to give dimension and the illusion of light and dark shadows. I used softer pastel  hues of color and played with opacity and gradient for the backdrop to give a warm feel and to capture the dusk of the day.
Postcard Thumbnail Sketches
For this project I created six concept designs for two possible landmarks that I could put on a postcard. I researched places that I would either like to visit or places or places that I have already visited. I really wanted to choose Africa as my theme for postcards to show the beauty of this continent, so I sketched three landmarks in Africa. I also created sketches for India and San Francisco.
