At first, I was only in it for the money. For a decade, longer, I practised the craft of removal without thinking of anything else. Then it came to me that I needed more, and I built the house.
I worked with the architect, the builders, the interior designers, on every step of the process to make sure it is perfect. Every room has a purpose: every possession has a place. All the money I’ve earned has been good for something; that’s how walking through this house makes me feel, because it presents a certain view of myself that pleases me. It is made for teaching. Only a great teacher would live here, I can say; no other type of person would make such good use of this space.
If you want a certain future, you must pinch out all other possibilities. Lesson one.
