Quiksilver's Campaign to Free Tillikum

Because of Quiksilvers link with the ocean, I felt they were the right brand to use for this idea. An interactive wall outside their flagship store in America is put up and it shows an image of what it would be like if we were looking through the glass into Tilikums tank.

The screen is actually interactive and when you walk past, the orca whale follows the walker. It also also has surround sound so that when someone puts their hands against the glass, the speakers set off crying sounds of the whale.

After the release of the documentary Blackfish, this story has been everywhere, and with the oppertunity to put all the information onto the website, this could be a chance for the message to be put out there. There are other surfing retail brands that could possibly join this campaign and make it huge, such as Rip Curl, Billabong or Roxy.
The campaign's purpose is to fight against the captivity of Tilikum, and all captivity of Killer Whales. As a brand, Quiksilver feel a purpose to fight for those who love and belong in the sea, and that is exactly what these animals need. They were not created for such atmospheres and the information show to us proves just this.
Quiksilver webpage-

Showing a brief description of the cause they are fighting for and how they are making their audience aware by getting their sponsored surfers to give their view on the matter.
A poster campaign for this, an idea of playing on the name Killer Whales. These are naturally born killers that take on other animals like sharks, seals and other whales. These are not the type of animal you would expect to see defensless in a glass box with nowhere to roam. An animal such as Tilikum, who is large for a Killer Whale, is sitting in his small perimeter, while people oggle at him through the glass. This animal has been in small areas such as this since he was taken from him mum at the age of two.

By using an example we know, there are serial killers through out our time that we have feared and read about, and they are put in a small prison cell because they deserve it. These animal however do not.

By using print ads of serial killers doing tricks, jumping through hoops, and an audience watching them outside their prison cell, it shows the similarity between what these two do, but then why one deserves to be in there, and the other doesn't.

A whole new idea for the brand, still using the direction of their love for the ocean, but using that to an advantage and for a good cause.
