The design's purpose.
This vector illustration was an educational case study. The goal of this illustration was to present multiple different characters interacting with one another and the environment around them.
The character designs needed to be consistent while still being unique. The scene needed to be lively and active, as if it was a picture of the characters in their natural environment and not an illustration.
The final sketch.
This was the last sketch I made before jumping into Illustrator. I used a reference image to help establish the environment that my characters would be in. This last sketch provided a great foundation for my vector work.
Different ideas.
These are the sketches I made while brainstorming ideas for this scene. I knew I wanted to create a scene with animals but I hadn't settled on a particular idea yet. Eventually I decided on a critter café.
