Drawing Ability
This piece best demonstrates my ability to develop a believable, detailed, and compelling drawing through the use of controlled abstraction, shading, perspective, and/or line quality.
Final Work
Part 2
Project Overview:

Class: Observational Drawin

Project: Positive Negative Space

I analyzed a still life composition and crafted a unique artwork that emphasized the interaction between positive and negative space. I approached the task by creating two distinct compositions, using black paint to accentuate the positive space and white paint to enhance the negative space, resulting in a visually captivating piece.

Process:

I first create thumbnail sketches which I then review with my peers to determine which composition is visually compelling and effective. Next, I meticulously measure and depict the negative space between each object in the still-life, allowing me to accurately represent the entire environment, rather than just individual forms. After transferring my work onto high-quality drawing paper, I use black and white paint to carefully craft each line with precision, paying close attention to achieving crisp edges and a harmonious balance between positive and negative space in each drawing.

Materials:
Drawing paper
Sight measuring tool
Viewfinder
Black and white acrylic paint
Ruler
Tape

Why I chose this project:

This project effectively showcases the advanced drawing skills I've acquired through my observational drawing course. This particular piece beautifully exemplifies my ability to transform a simple drawing into a stunning painting, highlighting my creative process and the technical proficiency I've gained.

Thumbnail Sketches
To create visually appealing thumbnail sketches of my still life, I experimented with various compositions based on my unique viewpoint. My explorations encompassed both vertical and horizontal layouts, and I took careful consideration of each object's direction and its relationship with positive and negative space. By doing so, I aimed to achieve an artwork that seamlessly harmonized each element to captivate the viewer's attention.

Process Sketches
These preliminary sketches mark the inception of my positive and negative drawings. To refine my final artwork, I transferred these initial renderings onto a high-quality drawing paper, enhancing their appearance with a polished finish.
