The Study
This project reflects my passion and continued study of animal anatomy through artistic forms. My earlier sketches were made in a notebook style, inspired by animal diagrams in biology journals and children's picture books. The links to these projects can be found on this page (see above & below). 'Animal Studies' uses a more painterly form of representation, using oil paint on canvas this time rather than pen, markers and crayons on paper. The series aims at studying the nuances of flesh, muscle and bone structures while retaining the depth and colour of organs, crevices and posterior / anterior animal anatomic parts.

The series shows animal studies to be artistic in nature. It views diagrams, journals and anatomic representation as art forms. Doing so, it transcends the idea of diagrams to be mere studies and explores their visual aspects as artwork. The process helped me discover the idea of 'unreality' and the irrelevance of biological knowledge in artistic formulation. Hence, the above forms aren't necessarily realistic representations of animal organs, rather, they are impressions of anatomy inspired by the love of science and its influence over art.
