Made & Found Objects

Upon initial creation of the book cover, I was really lost as to what font I wanted to have. I didn't wanted to steer away from those classic fonts you see related to mysteries and newspapers. My vision was to create something that was tied to hobbies I already loved. one of these being, puzzle making. I grew up reading The Da Vinci Code, and thought that making my typography out of puzzle pieces was an appropriate theme for the book.
I didn't want the puzzle to be a traditional puzzle with square like grids, so I instead opted for one that gives a little more personality, if you will. The different edges and pieces really stuck out to me so I knew I wanted to incorporate this puzzle in particular due to its unique shapes
The only consistent problem I had with making the words however, were actually finding pieces that would work with me to spell out the letter I wanted. Because all the shapes were so abnormal, it was difficult to find pieces off the bat that would make the words I wanted.
For the front cover, I went with this rustic burnt film background to keep in theme with the mystery and darkness involved with the novel. I feel like it makes the audience question, "what the hell is this?"
Color palette: I chose to stay on board a darker theme to further emphasize the mystery theme.
Back cover: I used the same background for both the main and back cover, however I layered Mona Lisa's face as an homage to her on the original covers on the Da Vinci books.
