The Basso Chair
Inspired by Arts & Crafts furniture and String Basses
Inspired by Arts & Crafts furniture and String Basses
About This Project:
The Basso's form was inspired by electric and upright string basses, by furniture of both the American and European Arts & Crafts movements, and by designers such as Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Gustav Stickley.
I wanted to create a design that could be produced in volume using a balanced combination of automation and hand work. I feel that a sense of honesty and craftsmanship is conveyed by the use of solid wood, exposed joinery, and a certain fair amount of hand finishing. That said, every component of the chair is capable of being milled by machine.
