This wall tapestry is based on 'Nazar', a term derived from Arabic, meaning "seeing". The concept is extremely popular in Turkey, where blue and white crystals, often depicted as 'the evil eye' or the 'hansa', hold symbolic significance in the form of jewellery to protect oneself from the evil eye. My original admiration of this jewellery grew into a deeper fascination with the use of the term 'Nazar' in my own culture, and the connotations that it held.  In my culture, the evil 'Nazar' of others is often accused as being the reason why things fall apart and problems arise. This piece depicts the powerful associations of the word through a decorative wall tapestry.
