The earthquake was one of the strongest to hit the region in the last century and was felt in neighboring countries such as Lebanon and Israel. The death toll in Turkey stands at 2,921, with 15,800 injuries reported, while in Syria the number of casualties stands at 1,451, with 711 deaths reported in government-controlled areas. The impact of this disaster is far-reaching and our thoughts are with those affected.

The earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria was of magnitude 7.8, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The epicenter of the quake was located 14.2 miles east of Nurdagi in Gaziantep province in Turkey and had a depth of 14.9 miles.
