Animal Crossing Fanart/Projects

For All the projects this week, I started by crating the basic shapes needed for the bodies. I also tried a new technique of also making shapes for the shading in each one before I added any colors to the shapes.
For Kody, I created the basic shape, using the pathfinder to create the half circle on his face. After that I created the ears, using the pen tool as I did in Stitches to create the pointy look to them. I then changed the colors and added the middles. For the eyes, I made the basic rounded square shape, duplicating it and cutting it so I could get the droopy eye look. I then added a stroke to the base eye shapes to match the reference that I was looking at. After I finished the base, I started on the body. I ended up retracing the leg shapes this time, resizing and placing them on. This made them look more natural than the way I had been doing it before. I then added the white designs on the feet and hands. For this project I did not add much shading nor effects, it was something simple and fun to do.
For Ruby, I made the basic shapes, using the new technique of making every shading spot a shape as well. I then started to change the colors after creating the overlay parts of the shapes. The eyes had the most overlaying shapes, four circles in all. One for the white, one for the dark red, one for the lighter pink, and one for the top stroke. The head of the project was easy to create; all duplicated one to get the other. I used the same idea for the bunny on the shirt, creating it as well. I then added the legs and arm by using the convert tool to warp an oval shape. I then added the shading on the arms and legs, which had been the only shading I forgot to add until the end.
When working on Stitches I found the most interesting part to work on was the design in the middle of his head and his ears. For the head, I had to use the pen tool to trace the area to create the shape I wanted. I then had to add a stroke to both the shape of the design and mouth area. This was difficult because I could not make it equal to the circle head shape because the stroke would not be able to be erases near the top when it went over. I also used the pen tool to draw a new shape for his ears, duplicating the first one to get the second and using the eyedropper to pick the colors I wanted from the reference picture.
For Tangy, I created the headfirst like I mostly do. I found it easy to create the shape, but then a bit difficult to get the design on the head to look natural enough. I changed the basic stroke on the leaf details to a different one so it wouldn’t be square all the time. I then created small overlapping circles for the details all over the face. I enjoyed making the ears, having to minimize the first shape after duplicating and changing the colors. I then created the shirt and body, using the pathfinder tool to get the stripes and shadows correct. I then added the tail last, making it a shade darker than the body color so it would look to be in the back more.
Snows design came from my animal crossing game of my own character. I started by making the head shape, taking a circle and moving the top anchor point up a little to make a semi egg shaped circle. I then locked this layer and created a new one, starting on the hair. For this one, I used the pen tool to create different shapes that later I would unite together with no stroke to create the hair. I then created the neck and back of the hair, setting that layer behind the first two, changing the colors to be a slightly different shade of the originals, to add a depth effect to the image. I then created the dress using the pen tool to create half of it, then duplicating and reflecting vertically for the other half. I did the same thing for the arms, legs and boots. For the boots, I used the unite tool to combine a bunch of circles to create the fur on the boots. I used circles and squares to create the main part of the boot. I then created the face part of the project. I simply made a circle and three lines with a black stroke and changed the shape of the stroke. I used the new shape to create the nose and mouth as well.
For the second project, Mayor2, I did almost the exact same as the first project, actually using the same base. The only things that were different were the face and the socks. For the socks, I morphed some shapes to make the sock base. I then used the line tool to add the sock shadows. For the face, I created the eye lashes by using the pen tool and making quick jagged clicks. I then morphed a circle to line up with the shape of the already made eyelashes. I then created the nose, and the mouth.
I started out with the Lamp by using the shape tool to create the different parts. I then used the pen tool to add the details that I couldn't place with the hsape tool. After that I began to set out the colors, using the gradient tool during this process. Aftewords, I started on the background and creating the flowers.

Animal Crossing Fantart/Projects. I am just a fan of the game, none of the characters belong to me except my design of my mayor.
