Capstone project for fourth year Design to Trend studio.
Deliverable: To create a conceptual line based on an original trend.
After brainstorming a multitude of exploratory concepts I honed my focus on designing a specialized line of ready-to-wear for specifically targeted consumers in cities where gang-related gun violence is high and getting caught in its crossfire is a daily hazard.
I began the process of delineating my objective for the line by crafting a problem statement that would address the needs of my consumers:
"9mm is a line of ready-to-wear that utilizes stylish yet protective panels of Kevlar® in designated places to create a lightweight, sleek, and cocooning body armor. 9mm also combines an overarching element of urban camouflage (evinced through silk prints and fabric that is intended to evoke metropolitan architectural components) as a secondary protection measure."
As stated earlier, the goal of this project was to create a conceptual line based on an original trend. The body of research I compiled and then used as a springboard for my collection was less of a trend than a state of escalating alarm around a topic that I felt should be readily addressed: gang-related gun-homicide.

I compiled all my research, trend forecasting, and final drawings into a book. Selected layouts are placed below. The entire project is also available on my website.
