La India Maria is a popular character in mexican culture. Played by the mexican actress María Elena Velsaco in more than 15 films, this comical role presents an Indigenous mexican woman full of energy and laughter.
This project consisted on representing this lovely and loud character in an Illustration piece, although it started out as a school project I am now looking to make it a bigger one. I would love your feedback and hope to be adding more work with this character.

ABOUT "LA INDIA MARIA"
Like many indigenous people, she's living in poverty but always tries her best to be happy even in the worst circumstances. Ingenious, honest, self-assured and noble, she's represents a hard working woman always trying to escape from ill willed people trying to take advantage of her supposed "ignorance".
