West End Sit Analysis

Our model explores in-between spaces and illustrates when a private space reveals itself to the public. The way the public sphere introduces the semi-private and how it alters the way people access and maintain their homes.
Because the commercial businesses outline the site, it creates an awareness of the public for the houses closest to the edge of the site. As a reaction to the public, some choose to fence off their spaces and some use a side door to enter and leave packages by. Others become more aware of the semi-public space by paying more attention to the grass in their front yard, retouching the paint on their porches. We look at the response of these residents in the West End to analyze how private spaces are moving towards the semi-private and public spaces are moving towards the semi-public.
Although the lines and physical markings of public and private spaces seem obvious, what defines this neighborhood is informal in-between spaces built and maintained by the residents.
