An exploration in conditional dynamics and the design of a relational score. Participants were comprised of passengers on Lufthansa flight LH422 on the 30th of March, 2014 from Frankfurt to Boston. this project was aimed at developing a visual and audio residue from participatory design.
Participants were given a notecard of 3″x5″ and a strip of seven different colored stickers, and were then asked “Arrange the stickers on the card.” Secondary participants are to follow the ‘game’ instructions, by arranging the cards in a row and translating each notecard into a measure of a musical score on an instrument of their choice, but following the guidelines listed below.

assign each finger a color
assign one remaining color to volume and the other to position
volume signifier – position of ‘volume sticker’ influences volume of that measure, bottom left equates quietness, top right equates louder playing
position signifier – card is to be split in thirds, left third moving hand position down one whole step, middle third signifies no change, and right third signifies moving up one whole step
Place the fingers on any keys (if for piano) but the distance is to remain the same throughout
position the cards horizontally
move through the card steadily, valuing each card for one measure in 4/4 time. Metronome mark is up to the performer. default to be 120bpm
There will be overlap of sounds as each sticker is given 1 quarter beat
shortest notes to be eighth notes of sixteenth notes, up to the performer
anomylous cards allow the performer to break any and all rules
