Commissioned artwork for a book project (2021)
Spiraldynamik® is a network of medical and physiotherapy practices in Switzerland that specialize in innovative non-operative orthopedics. One area they are active in is the diagnosis and treatment of hallux valgus (or bunion), which is one of the most common disorders in orthopedics.
In the context of a new book project to be published by Graefe & Unzer, a major German publishing house, I was commissioned to create two artworks that would convey (i) feelings of pain, discomfort, and suffering tied to this condition, and (ii) perceptions of balance, healing, and health that can be attained after seeking treatment through physiotherapy.
I created these illustrations using a mixed-media format that combined hand-drawn sketches with digital elements realized in Adobe Photoshop.
