Global Initiative Animation

Working with Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, we told a story of human trafficking and forced marriages by an animation video.
The story raises the awareness of audiences about the topic and helps them to feel a "close" connection with the characters thru an illustration world.

I selected two scenes to create style frames for the client. The first scene depicts the woman being traded for money, while the second scene portrays her being mistreated by her mother-in-law.
Style frames
This is the first style frame, and my goal is to emphasize the exchange of money and a woman in this scene. To achieve this, I have positioned the woman and the envelope of money at the center of the illustration. The woman is shown sitting nervously in the background, with no one beside her to convey her loneliness and passivity. In the foreground, the two men who are exchanging the money are painted in darker shades of colors to convey the shady, illegal nature of their activity.
This is the second style frame, depicting the moment when the mother-in-law makes rude comments about the woman's infertility. To convey the emotional impact of this scene, I've used a contrasting light to split the frame in half. The open door is intentionally placed to indicate that the woman can hear the conversation between her husband and mother-in-law, adding to her distress.
After receiving some feedback from the producer, I decided to make some changes to the composition. I repositioned the husband and his mother closer to the camera to give them a more dominant presence, while also making the woman appear more isolated and vulnerable.
