Art Nouveau Inspired Motif and Pattern

Project Summary

This design involves creating a motif and a pattern that is inspired historical design style movement known as Art Nouveau.

A motif is an ornamental picture or pattern, particularly one that is repeated and forms a pattern.

From the early 1890s to the First World War, the captivating and dynamic Art Nouveau style dominated the visual arts. Art Nouveau artists took organic subjects and flattened and abstracted them into elegant, sinuous, and flowing designs, drawing their inspiration from natural shapes and plant life. Organic shapes, complex patterns, a variety of materials, and earthy hues are characteristics of the design movement. Ironically, modern industry has made it possible to shape the materials into natural shapes.
