Picture Book | The Tale About Black Square

”The Tale About Black Square” – book for children above 3 years old. Main purpose of this book is to help child understand modern art with simple examples in our life. Explain to children that all these weird shapes and splashes artists create as symbols and signs which interpret world apropos his outlook.  Today museums and art-galleries are available for everyone, for youngest viewers too. Fine art causes million questions in young heads and this is a big challenge for their parents, because not everyone can give a good answer about that. My purpose is to create a children book series about modern artists and their art.
The first one is – “The Tale About Black Square”.

It tells us about one of the most famous artwork of 20-th century - Black Square by Kazimir Malevich. Minimalist illustrations and simple text – is my attempt to tell, that all famous pictures and artworks can surround us in everyday life. Artist as impressionable person can find in usual things deeper meaning and symbolism. This book tells us about searching black squares in our daily surrounding. It begins from usual geometric form and ends as artwork. In illustrations you can see allusions on Malevich inspirations by Ukrainian embroidery, his decorative pillows, with supremacist design and first appearance Black Square on exhibition “0.10” in Saint-Petersburg. I hope that this book help art become closer for the youngest.

As a bonus for the readers, I design a game, in which children can do their own supremacist pictures and compositions. This project also contains a sticker pack and postcards.

Thanks for watching!
