General Description of the Project:
The Valley is a place in the city that invites people to share. Public, commercial aswell as private functions are all apart of the public space inside the Valley to create an insteresting dynamic of use aswell as a space that is used throughout the day and evenings. Instead of having a single open area inside the Valley, the public space of the block have been made into smaller unique areas that allow for different functions and uses.
By using permeable and transparent structures that connect the diferent space inside the Valley and the streets we create a social space that extends even outisde of the block boundries and helps bring life, activity and safety back to the public spaces of Fusagasuga. The more private dwellings are placed in the upper floors and have been given both shared and private teracess and balconies to allow for separation of space while maintaining the important connections between the different social spheres inside the Valley.
Even though public and communal space were a pilar of the project, the Valley offers apartment units for all kinds of users that could be interested in living in Fusa. Commerce owners can live in duplex with the first floor dedicated to shops, students canuse the temporary studio-apartments located in the bridge building, and families of all sizes can use the different units in the rowhouses, each of them with different areas and number of rooms.
The Urban Valley is a space were different kinds of people can come together and create community, giving a new face to the previous block, where closed facades and lack of quality public space were the main characteristics.
