Fencemat

KOODESIGN has completed a product redesign for Fencemat, a pest control mechanism that prevents rodents from entering doorways and other openings. Pests pose a serious health and safety risk in many parts of the world, and effective solutions have been hard to come by. Fencemat offers a more humane solution that doesn’t kill or trap the animal, just deters it. This aligns with KOODESIGN’s ongoing mission to design for social impact and make a real-world difference.
Just like many in other industries, working in industrial design and product creation has evolved since the pandemic began two years ago. KOODESIGN managed to complete the Fencemat redesign project working with our client originally located in Dubai, who later moved to England, Southampton during lockdown. Meanwhile we were working on design and engineering in Hong Kong, while validation tests took place in China. All communication throughout the design phase was done via video calls. We are very pleased with the project outcome, and have learned to work effectively without needing to travel for meetings!
With our redesign of the Fencemat pest control device, we reconsidered the arrangement of the conductive wire in way that not only made it more aesthetically appealing, but also more efficient in preventing pests from passing over the pattern. Our design also saw the integration of the logo into the fence graphic, making the icon integrate with the functionality. The copper color also has a more refined vibe that matches better with interior décor, making it less industrial and more home oriented.
