WHIZ Gambit

Design: Larry Koo, King Wong and Nichole Wong
Project: Natalie Chan

KOODESIGN was proud to take part in the design creation of Whiz Gambit, an AI-powered commercial disinfectant robot that is a joint project between Hong Kong-based pharmaceutical biotech company Avalon SteriTech, and Japan-based robotics company SoftBank Robotics. KOODESIGN designed and engineered a major enhancement to the SoftBank cleaning robot (Whiz) and evolved its functionality by creating a disinfectant attachment (Gambit).

KOODESIGN’s industrial design work helped to facilitate the joint venture between Avalon and SoftBank by efficiently adding the disinfecting attachment to an existing robot, at a time when disinfection protocols are top of mind for people and businesses.

While the SoftBank Robotics Whiz AI-driven cleaning robot was previously used only for self-navigated vacuuming, the Gambit unit adds a disinfecting spray mechanism to vastly increase its sanitization capabilities. KOODESIGN was able to seamlessly integrate the new disinfecting component while maintaining the same look, feel and operability. These are the types of projects and clients we are passionate about working with – driven by our desire to design products that make a true social impact for people and businesses.
