For this class project, we were commissioned by a local school to make posters to advertise a Senior lock-in. Because the event will be held at an arcade/bowling/buffet type place, the first thing that came to mind was neon. The colors of the original poster the client came up with reminded me of synth wave, and because the client wanted a change of pace, I thought that vapor wave would match the original theme while also being different enough from the original to be attention grabbing. Fitting with the theme, I chose to use a font that looks pixelated in order to resemble the text found in older arcade games. I tried to hint at the lock-in aspect of the poster by making the main graphic element a sunset. Though not in the original design I submitted, I thought it would be clever to cover up the QR code (privacy reasons) and make it read “QR” in a way that resembles the 1’s and 0’s of binary code. Though the composition of this is not my favorite, I am very proud of my color choices and the graphic elements I created.
