Barcelona Pavilion

The Barcelona Pavilion is seen is an emblematic piece of the modernist architecture movement. It was originally designed by Mies Van der Rohe (1886 - 1969) as Germany’s entry to the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition. Following the exhibition it was disassembled, though in 1980 it was decided it should be reconstructed, based on its architectural merits and historical importance.

The fact that almost 80 years on design schools and designers continue to study and analyse the Barcelona Pavilion using modern visualisation techniques, such as those depicted here, is perhaps the biggest tribute to Mies van der Rohe. His “less is more” approach is said to have inspired several generations of architects, and giving the apparent timelessness of his designs is likely to continue to do so.
