".. Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage's whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men. “

The alienation and loss of privacy engendered by the large modern office space is something we have tried to address in this design for a Corporate Client. With gentle lights, shadows and reflections being a primary feature, our design seeks to minimize the inherent violence in making people work like in “cubicle farms”.
The building is pushed back on the ground floor, creating a deck that is inviting and also allows for meeting rooms & the lobby to engage with the external street. Meeting rooms of various sizes have showroom like glazing fronting the street. The street forms a tunnel through the building with natural ventilation. It acts as a break out space / transition between the inside and the outside. We encased three sides of this street with aluminum tubes. The internal spaces follow this tunnel / tube concept in a different way. Here, the passages between cubicles are encased in a low height, intimate ‘tube’ through which one moves through the office. The tunnel ensures privacy to person walking around and lessens the disturbance to the people working inside.
