One-toed grazing equid from the late Miocene and Pliocene of the USA. Illustration for Wikipedia. Based on work by Deb Bennett. Interpreted the notorious preorbital fossae as anchors for overgrown rostral muscles, suggesting a strong, mobile upper lip used for selective grazing.
