Fred G Dale Planetarium Banner

The purpose of this work was for my undergraduate Graphic Design 1 class. The goal was to make a design for the planetarium on campus, and then the head of the planetarium would decide which on got hung up outside of the planetarium. Mine did not get picked but I enjoyed the process and think it’s one of my best works. I used stereotypical galaxy colors, stars, and a galaxy photo to make it feel like space. I used a person’s face for the main composition because “the eye is the gateway to the soul”. Then I put the required text he wanted on the banner.
he objective of this work was to be able to advertise the college’s planetarium by making a large banner that could be hung up outside for people passing by to look at. First, I got information from the planetarium director and what he wanted on it. He wanted it to be more realistic, have the planetarium’s logo, have the word “Planetarium” in large print, and the website for people to get more information if they would like. He included a quote, but it was not required to be put on the banner. I then looked up images of space for inspiration. After that, I did a few sketches and made some rough drafts. Then I received feedback and made some rough digital drafts. People recommended I change my design a little by including the entire face instead of just the eye. I made this change and really liked it. I also saw someone’s banner and like where they put the quote, so I then decided to put the quote in a different space that looked better. The banner was successful because it showed the message of the quote which was about being a gateway to everywhere.
