Exploration of Triangles

I have always had a fascination to multiple of three’s and have always tended to do things in multiple’s of three. Take three paper towels when I wash my hands, I tend to think things happen in three’s, and I always have three options for blankets at night. When I would be bored in class ever since I was little I would end up drawing these really intricate triangles that would form some sort of new shape or create a new feeling to the piece.
Since I was stuck to the point of not knowing what to do for my last and final project for Design and Composition I was completely lost. One day I was fooling around and cutting designs into book board and just stuck with it. Since I had to ask people for their back’s to their bristol and tracing paper I didn’t have much dimensions to work with if I wanted to have a significant border of white. So I made all the pieces eight and a half by ten and a half with a two and a half border all around. Every single design I used was revisited from my notan sketches and balance and symmetry sketches. I then took them and reworked them with triangles. To the point where the pattern the triangle made gave a certain look and made your eye move around the entire piece.
Working on this project for probably a total of forty-eight to fifty hours all combined throughout the week. I first sketched how I wanted the pattern of triangles to work then I cut them one by one. I did them all in spurts because I didn’t want to get frustrated and start to do a sub-par job.
I made four pieces. They range from chaotic to simplistic. I put a number on each back so you could look at them in the correct order. I decided not to name them and let each piece speak for themselves. I cannot express the amount of pride I have in this work and I am hoping to continue this series into larger pieces and divulge into different shapes.

I always had a facination with triangles and decided to create compositions with chip board.
