Native Genome Project
BRAND DESIGN
THE CLIENT
The Native Genome Project seeks to build the first public-access, genomic database of whole-ecosystems within different bioregions of the KSA to inform ecosystem preservation efforts. This will provide essential data as to how and why a particular ecosystem operates in a particular environment that can be used to engineer large-scale ecosystems that are sustainable, will positively influence vegetation cover, and will fight against desertification across the country. In the process, producing a new cohort of scientists trained in the study of ecosystem biology and its application to environmental protection and conservation.
THE PROJECT
The clients approached my team to create a brand identity and website that would provide essential information about the project and each studied species.
THE SOLUTION
Logo, icon, and illustration design
I took the lead in the brand's design, creating an identity that emphasizes exploration and the kingdom's surprisingly diverse flora. This served as the springboard for my colleague's website design.

Using 3 bold horizontal bands of color, the logo minimalistically represents the studied landscape (sea, desert, forest). It highlights the exploratory nature of the work and the goal of conserving the kingdom’s natural environments.
An illustration includes species characteristic of the region, as well as the biodiversity that they support. A DNA strand was included, as genetic mapping is central to the project.
One species from each group was selected to represent the whole for the icon designs.
