My Path:

Initially, I chose career readiness because my intentions with college were to start my own business and run/manage it. But as time has gone by my focus has switched to student success, focusing more on work habits and well-being rather than Business strategy and management.

Firstly, I have switched my majors from finance to communications. Finance and math, in general, have always been something that I've excelled at so naturally, I wanted to pursue a degree in that field, thinking that if I was good at it I would enjoy it. But within the first couple of weeks of college, I had already lost all motivation to pursue my initial dream, and I think this is because I chose to pursue my skills over my passions. So already I fumbled at step 1.

And Secondly,  I had the realization that all I want in life is to be happy, so I began thinking about myself more, Is this the best for me? Do I think it's meaningful? Do I gain enjoyment from what I'm doing? Am I overworking myself? These are all very common questions I asked myself. and then I was seeing if I could make a system to where I can do the most for myself, while also being successful and productive in my studies and work.

Figuring me out:

A good place to start was identifying my weaknesses
1. Time Management
2. Focus
3. Discipline

Then, I had to identify things that I feel make me stressed (work and productivity-wise)
1. Time limits
2. Lack of freedom
3. Specific Tasks/Hard deadlines
4. Myself

So, knowing these things I worked out a style of schedule that would work well for me. And I ended up landing on this.
This Schedule really maximizes my efficacy by blocking out time rather than giving deadlines, so I can be flexible with my pace but still focus my time so my mind doesn't wander.

I feel like this was a great first step in preparing myself for a career because I am working on my time management and building good work habits.

Activities completed so far:

1. Volunteer at the Whataburger resource room
2. Go to a Campus Career expo
3. Go to a campus Job fair
4. Created and sent out a resume
5. interviewed a professional in my desired field
6. Joined a Fraternity
Reflecting:

Looking back on my project, a lot of my research has been self-reflective. I don't think I'm an effective worker, I don't like how much I can procrastinate. I put a lot of stress on my mind and body, whether it's not enough sleep, working myself too hard, or always thinking I don't have enough time.
All-in-all, I think I suck, and that if I don't excel I'm a disappointment to myself and my family. But that's why we work on ourselves and always remember that we have time and not to give up on ourselves (hopefully I can embrace that.) And as the Marines say "Embrace the suck."
