Students develop their chosen themes through drawing and executing a series of woven samples. The samples explore structures and materials relevant to the chosen subject matter. Fine arts oriented or design projects which evolve from the investigation are woven.
Midterm Project

Students were required to create samples for a specific end use and I decided to make Lamp shades.
By experimenting with monofilament, I wanted to play with the negative and positive spaces created by the light and shadow

Final Project

For the final project I wanted to create a fabric
that captured the light quality of the surface of Black and White moor fish.
Unlike goldfish that have shiny skin texture, moor fish have a matt/ velvet like texture with subtle changes in color depending on the lighting.
By space dyeing the warp and weft yarns and using a shiny rayon for pattern weft, I created a shawl that subtly reveals the differnet patterns and colors according to the lighting.

Material - Baby Alpaca, wool, mohair, rayon
