Admission stories of GCU students written and photographed as a social media worker at Grand Canyon University.
Meet Marshanna from Palo beach, Florida! In high school, Marshanna was involved in many clubs and organizations including Volleyball, Black Student Union and a student-led worship team!
When searching for colleges, Marshanna didn't want to be too far or too close from home and was looking for an environment where she could grow her faith. After she took a Discover trip and seeing the campus and unique environment GCU offers, Marshanna decided GCU was the right fit for her! On campus, Marshanna is a part of the Worship Team! This involvement first started on the Local Outreach Team where she heard about auditioning for the worship band. She had friends on the team, so she was encouraged to audition and then got accepted onto the team! Marshanna says the GCU worship team has been the biggest blessing in her life and that it is incredible that she was able to find herself a part of something bigger than her! Some advice Marshanna has for incoming students is, “don't be afraid to put yourself out there because it is what you make it.” If you see Marshanna around campus, be sure to say hello and ask her about GCU worship!

Meet JD from the Bay Area in California! He is going into his Senior year at GCU and is majoring in Marketing and Advertising and minoring in communications and graphic design.
He explored GCU more in depth after a representative came and visited his school in California. That then led him to take a Discover trip! GCU was the only out of state college he applied for and his Discover trip sold him! JD started his college journey out as a Business Management major but after taking a few marketing courses, decided to make the switch to Marketing and Advertising! He realized with marketing he can do business while still expressing creativity. JD started his involvement at GCU working for Discover and CAB. He loved all of the opportunities he was given to interact with students. Not only that but he has had involvement with TEDxGCU! JD started out as Marketing Director and then this year will transition into being the Vice President of Content Creation. His favorite part of GCU is that it has given him the ability to find a balance between going at his own pace and stepping out of his comfort zone. Through GCU, it has allowed him to access the gifts and talents God has given him. His advice for incoming freshmen would be to find the balance of pursuing what you want to do and pushing yourself, but at the same time not being afraid to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. “You only really get 4 years, be sure to make the most of your experience.” If you see JD around campus, be sure to say hi!
