CYCLE OF LIFE
Sustainable Ecovillage

Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising
the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The notion is wide and captures
ecological, social and economical aspects.

A Sustainable society is one that can progress without catastrophic setbacks in
the foreseeable future. Mahatma Gandhi has said, "Earth provides enough to satisfy every
man's need, but not every man's greed." The Earth had vast resources to satisfy our
needs. The only reason we are running on a resource deficit is that we did not keep our
greed in check. A sustainable society is simply one that can avoid a devastating blow so
that human society can continue its long journey to perfection.

Cycle of Life - Concept and Inspiration
It is a small society that is based on universal human values. Supporting and living
with each other in a open environment that has it’s own production of honey, herbs,
vegetables, fruits and dairy products.
There are homes suitable for every individual. The apartments are (60 m2) big,
perfect for students and couples. There two types of houses. Row houses of (90 m2) -
good for young families with a child or an office if needed and family house (140 m2),
suitable for big families with 2 or 3 kids in total of 5 inhibitors.

Location It is located north from the bridge above river Blato connecting the
villages Mramor and Dobroslavci. There is an easy access to the villages and they are in a
walking distance (500m) through the south-west corner of property. The property itself has
streets and small roads the lead to every home and to the central area.

Public spaces include a information centre, library, cultural centre, open
marketplace where people can enjoy household production, tea place, organic restaurant,
communal kitchen, workshop, health centre, drug store, hairdresser, shoes and cloths
store, bicycle rent, bank and more.
There is a sport centre situated south-east of the property, including swimming pool,
football and basketball court. There is a parking area located south, suitable for visitor and
inhibitors of the village.
The technical facilities are situated north-east. There is a centre for geothermal
energy, recycling system and water heat storage. As well there is a lake that collects the
rain water for future use. The lights in the public areas are supported by solar panels and
are activated via movement sensors.

Materials and Functionality Buildings are made from clay, straw and wood they
are a perfect thermal and electromagnetic isolator. The clay regulates humidity and its a
good soundproof. Buildings are situated above the ground surrounded by 1,5m of earth
that gives an extra isolating and ventilating effect. The terrain bellow the builds is covered
with gravel and underneath it theres a rain water reservoir for watering.
As the buildings are made by light materials, after attending a short training
program, people can easily build their own houses. This will ensure a cut on spendings
and it will gratify people on a emotional level, that they are the builders of their own homes.

Heating and Ventilation In every home theres an active water heating that heats
the walls and floor. There is an option for natural ventilation via roof openings or crossventilation.
Additionally theres a controlled ventilation that has 90% heat return efficiency.
Central to the heating is the benefits of the passive architecture that combined with
renewable energy sources gives heat return efficiency of 93%.

Conclusion We have crafted this project with great determination as our own
values collide with the philosophy of the sustainable environment. We believe that ethical
development towards the environment should be encouraged and architectural decisions
that help prevent depletion of neutral resources should be taken. The environment we
have created is about healthier existence due to the organic materials in use and the
social element of mutual support, household food production and renewable resources -
key factors to the sustainable society.
