Jason Fujikuni's profile

Everlasting (Artist Book)

Star-book structure and scroll book/sculpture diptych.  Hand dyed muslin, cut-outs, burning, stitching and paper mache with Rives BFK printmaking paper, Strathmore drawing paper, and rice paper.  January 2014.
Dedicated to my grandmother, Alice Hisako Takeuchi Fujikuni, Hisa.  Hisa was a beloved friend, chef, sister, mother and grandmother.  Hisa in Japanese means everlasting or sustaining–just as the hydrangea, Hisa's favorite flower, is a symbol of everlasting grace and beauty.  Unfortunately, Hisa's penchant for smoking cut her life short leavinga burn in the heart of all who love and miss her very much.
*On display at the RISD Musuem Gelman Gallery, 'Reading Room' exhibition April 4-June 1, 2014.
