An etching of a wild Hebridean beach. Rubh' an Teampaill - the ruin of a medieval church - stands in the background, across the rolling waves.

 

The drawing was made directly onto a zinc plate which was coated in an acid-resistant wax. The metal plate was then etched in acid to create the initial line drawing (below). The image above is the final stage using aquatint resin, and acid-resistant varnish before etching in stages to create tonality.
